14 Oct 2008:

Greetings from Iraq…   First and Foremost I want to thank everyone who has been writing and sending packages. I have been trying to get a personal letters to everyone who has taken time to send us letters and packages.. From the bottom of our we thank you sending us letters and goodies. We have been off base for about month and this is my first my opportunity to update the website.

Over the past month we have been getting a lot accomplished. So that everyone is aware we are the Seabees and we have the capability to perform construction in times of uncertainty and while in a hostile country. The Seabee Birthday is March 5, 1942 shortly after Pearl Harbor was attacked. Which was one of the main reasons our organization was established, to perform construction during WWII. Well long story short we have been living up to our Motto “We build, we fight”. Not so much in the latter part of the Motto. Over the past month we have been busy upgrading Checkpoints were the Army is working and living from. This is big boost for the morale of the Army when we show up. The most recent upgrade we were involved with required us to install more than 40 AC units (in bedrooms), we added 12 showers (now they have 13), partitioned 15 rooms (Over 10,000 SqFt), improved the internal security, installed 3 generators and rewired nearly the whole building.

We are close to our halfway point for this deployment. This is a big boost for morale since we all miss our family and friends.

A special thanks to the following people who have started supporting and very special thanks to those who continue to support:

To give you an update we have completed our first month and have several more to go. The days have been hot and dry. The work has been plentiful and we are staying busy. We had several raindrops, fall the other day. The good news is that we are over the hump for august which is the hottest time of the year and it should start to cool off soon (we are crossing our fingers).

I am EO1 Michael Lyons and I am writing in representation of my platoon. On occasion we send our Seabees on dangerous missions, and they would love to have some snacks from home--oreo cookies, peanut butter rice crispy treats, treats in general that are not easy to come by here-- as well as personal hygiene items, for both men and woman (we have 4 women in our platoon). While still at base we have a microwave, and any of those microwavable treats( popcorn, dinty moore, chef boy ar dee) would be much appreciated. We also have a coffee maker and our guys are fond of the dunkin donuts coffee, but happy to drink a good cup of Joe,.
Being so far from loved ones is difficult on all our troops and we would all love to hear from home-- new friends and old alike. This can be done by letters and by sending calling cards so that we may contact those that are still at home.
We have at our disposal our own personal computers that allow us to play CD's and DVD's, and seeing some of the latest hits that have been released is a great treat when we can get them, there are not many movie theaters here in the dessert. We have access to a PS3 as well and love new (to us, old to you) reading material: magazines and books alike.

The USPS is offering a package of materials to help send stuff to soldiers:
The kit may be requested by calling 1-800-610-8734 (Packing Supply) and:

1.
Choose your language (1 is English, 2 is Spanish).
2.
Choose option 1 (it states it is for Express Mail service, Priority Mail or Global Express   Guaranteed).
3.
When you reach a live agent, request CAREKIT04.
4.
Please allow 7-10 days for delivery.
and
Additionally, you can find guidelines for packing, addressing, and shipping items to U.S. troops at www.usps.com/supportingourtroops/.

Thank you all of the people back home that support us with kind thoughts and prayers as well as these wonderful gifts of care packages from home. It will really brighten a soldiers day.

I am representing a platoon and we often send people out side of the wire. We are looking for snacks (Cookies oreos peanutbutter rice krispe treats) we are also looking for hygene items such as liquid soap, razors, scrunchies and deoderant. We are alos looking for calling cards so people can call home. We have females here and they are asking for lotions and female products.
We are looking for old magazines (popular mechincs, science computer car magazies)   we have micrwave and would like microwavable snacks dinte moore, chef boy rdee (sorry about the spelling) we would also like coffee with all the condiments (dunkin doughnuts. Letters help people feel good.

We have the ability to watch movies on our time. so new releases are a big plus. We also have a PS3 that the younger troops are playing on. So any games for those are appreciated also. whom ever reads this thank you for taking time to help us out.

Respectfully
EO1 Lyons

Thanks

IMPORTANT! DO NOT PRINT THIS PAGE!!!

Why? Because this list changes all the time due to unit movements, soldier transfers, or even soldier casualties.
It is also illegal. ALL content on this site is copyright Any Soldier Inc.
DO NOT send any letter or package to a soldier's address unless you check this web site the same day you mail your packages.
Please do not burden the soldiers or the APO/FPO by sending things when the soldiers are gone. If a soldier is not listed here anymore then that soldier's address is expired. Check here often!

Note that some of the units do not have ranks shown on their addresses.
This is done at the unit's request, but ALL of our contacts ARE Servicemembers.

Be sure to change the "ATTN" line to "ATTN: Any Female Sailor if your package is for a female!

DO NOT use this program if you expect or require a reply!
DO NOT expect, or require, a reply from a Sailor!
A supporter said it perfectly, "I mean, these guys and gals have other things on their minds, y’know? Like...oh, STAYING ALIVE?"

(NOTE *): Effective 1 May 2006 this web site added a major layer of security to our contacts' information. This change is necessary to protect our troops and ensure that Any Soldier will continue to operate.
The ONLY changes are that the addresses of our contacts are now hidden and the number of addresses you can get are limited. You may obtain addresses simply by clicking on the link provided and correctly filling out the form, the address will then be emailed to you immediately.

(NOTE **): The number shown is how many times a form was submitted requesting this address. This does NOT necessarily mean that this contact will be helped by that many folks. Rule of thumb is that anything 5 requests or less may in fact be no support at all. No way to tell exactly unless the contact lets you know in his/her update how much support they are getting.

(Note 1.): Note that postage to APO AE and FPO AE (E = Europe) is only to NY where the connection to the APO/FPO (APO = Army Post Office)(FPO = Fleet Post Office) is, or to San Francisco for APO AP and FPO AP (P = Pacific), so you don't pay postage all the way to Iraq/Afghanistan. You might consider picking contacts closer to your mailing area to help cut the cost of mailing. If you live on the East Coast, pick "AE", West Coast, pick "AP", Midwest, well...uh, Thank You for your Support! ;)

New with us (December 2005) you might notice "APO AA" and "FPO AA". This is for units in the Caribbean/South America. Normally. However, due to the nature of some units they may be in Iraq but have an address showing "FPO AA". Mail addresses to "AA" goes out of Miami, Florida.

(Note 2.): Why are military addresses weird? There isn't a street address or city. What gives? Correct, just about everything about the military is weird to civilians. Military units are very mobile, they move around a lot, often they even become part of another unit. The APO (Army Post Office) and FPO (Fleet Post Office) assign APO and FPO numbers as needed, they are NOT static. An APO/FPO number may be for a large unit, or a location. An APO/FPO number for Baghdad today may be for Frankfurt tomorrow.

(Note 3.): The "Expect to not mail past" date is only an approximate and is one of the least reliable things on this web site. It is because of this that you must check often before you send anything to this unit. There are a few reasons this date is not reliable, to include: it IS the Military, we ARE dealing with the APO/FPO/DPO. The only thing that does not change in the military is that things will change. PLEASE NOTE that a Contact is dropped off our active list 30 days PRIOR to their date leaving to help avoid mail bouncing.

(Note 4.): (Removed for OPSEC reasons)

(Note 5.): The lines, "Contact with approx number of Soldiers:" and "Approx how may Female Soldiers:" have NOTHING to do with unit strength. They are approximately how many other Troops the Contacts believe they can get packages to. This helps you understand that you should not send 100 packages to someone who only deals with 10 Troops.
Don't forget that if your package is for a female Soldier, be sure to change "ATTN: Any Soldier®" to "ATTN: Any Female Soldier".

( Note 6.): This is simply where the unit this contact is from. This is NOT a true picture of the folks in the unit as most all units are made up of folks from all over the United States.) A "Composite Unit" is one made up of other units and is usually temporary for a particular mission.

( Note 7.): Updated APO/FPO/DPO mailing restrictions> courtesy of Oconus.com (gone now) (Note: About Restriction "U2": "U2 - Limited to First Class Letters", Box "R" is for retired personnel that live overseas and are still authorized an APO/FPO box. Their address will be something like Box 3345R. Doubt you will see anything like that in Afghanistan or Iraq or ...)(Please Note: Sometime in August 2013, Oconus.com changed the code on their page and our form doesn't work with them anymore, so a link to their page is the best we can do, sorry.)
