13 Jan 2009:

Our mailing cut off date has been extended until February 1st, 2009. As long as packages are in the system prior to that date we will get them here in Iraq prior to leaving.

As the raining season is upong us, more people are stopping by the Lava Java for something warm to drink. Stir Sticks, Fu Fu Creamers & Large Coffee filters conitnue to be our main need. Also, I'm sure the Marines would appreciate some hand warmers.

Thanks again for all your support.

Blessings,

Chaplain Brandon S. Harding

Thankfully our deployment is winding down. Our mail will be turned off sometime in early February. Any packages that are sent to us need to be mailed by January 15th.

As we will not be able to get any mail for about 3-4 weeks prior to leaving we would like to get stocked up on a couple of items. Namely coffee creamers & stir sticks. Also, we are still in need of the 3.5 inch DVDs for our reading program.

Additionally, we will be running a Marathon and a Half Marathon on February 14th. We are calling it the “Heartbreaker”. It would be great to have some prizes to give to the winners.

We continue to ask for your prayers. We lost a Marine on 21 December, LCpl Thomas Reilly Jr. He was killed in action against enemy forces.

Blessings,

Chaplain Brandon S. Harding

Well, Christmas is almost upon us. We are doing our best to get into the Christmas Spirit. Many Marines and Sailors have decorated their rooms and work spaces. Along “company row” at Camp the medical troops have a giant Snow Globe and Santa. I have been blaring Christmas music with my outdoor sound system. Packages from home have been coming in like the winter surf on the North Shore. The support we are receiving is amazing.

Our hearts ache at the thought of being away from our loved ones during this sacred time of year. They are always in our thoughts and prayers. We are doing our best to stay focused on the mission and finishing the job here so that we can all return home. The Humanitarian Assistance project of giving out clothes and shoes has been a smashing success. We have received tons (literally) of items to pass out. We have held a couple of events and the Iraqis have been so grateful. It warmed our hearts to see the smiles on the children’s faces as they tried on a new pairs shoes. Seeing the poverty here and how excited a child gets by receiving a new pair of shoes is humbling.

Recently I went to a poor village to meet with one of the local leaders to discuss ways we could help. As we walked across the village, it was evident that these people were in the strangle hold of poverty. In this particular place, there was no running water, power scarce, and the nearest medical clinic miles away. The children walk 4 miles to attend school. It was a powerful reminder of all of the blessings that we have in our lives.

I have witnessed spectacular improvement in the lives of the Iraq people over the course of my deployments here. They are beginning to enjoy real peace and freedom. That freedom came at a great cost, in lives of many Marines & Sailors, Soldiers, and Airmen. During this Christmas Season we have great reason to rejoice and hope and pray that peace will continue.

Thank you so much for the support. Our Coffee House is a huge success. Now that the weather has turned a little colder we are getting more and more traffic. The main item we continually run out of is “fu-fu” coffee creamer. The stuff goes quick.

We recently constructed an outdoor movie theater. While we have plenty of VHS tapes, it would be nice to get a few recent releases of DVDs for our movie night.

With the holidays approaching your support means more than ever. Knowing we have great support back home helps take away some of the heartache we feel in being away from our families.

I have one request. We are running out of blank mini-DVDs. They are for our reading program, where Marines read stories to their children. The discs are called mini-DVD-R. They are 30 minute discs. If you could send us some that would be great.

Have a very Merry Christmas!!

Blessings,

The support has been fabulous. We have found a supplier of hot chocolate, so we no longer need any of that. Our coffee house seems to be doing well. It looks like we will have enough coffee and other drinks to last us several months. “fu-fu” creamer is always in high demand. We seem to run out of that quickly.

As the Holidays approach it would be nice to get some phone cards to hand out to the Marines so they could call home for free. As previously posted holiday decorations would be fabulous.

We are working on a service project over here. If you would like to get involved that would be great. If you aren’t interested that is okay too.

This project involves helping the children of Iraq. The area where I am located is mostly rural farm land and is very poor. This area was also exposed to brutal violence by Al Qaeda in Iraq. They would terrorize the families and torture and kill those who cooperated with the Marines. Thankfully that era has passed, but the scars remain.

Anyway, one of the primary needs for the children here are shoes. Many do not have shoes and the ones who do only have cheap sandals. Those are fine during the hot summer months, but not for the winter. Believe it or not it does get relatively cold here in the winter, 30s-40s. Also, the children do not have much by the way of jackets or coats. So, if you have items you would like to send please do so. If you would like to enlist church, work, or other groups to help collect items and send them over that would be great.

To get them here by mid- December they would need to be shipped prior to Thanksgiving. Every year the military postal system gets flooded with packages around the holidays, which slows delivery down. So the sooner they are shipped the more likely they would get here on time.

This is my third trip over here and each time it is heart breaking to see the conditions the children live in. They have been exposed to so much violence. If we are going to have any lasting positive effect on this country we have to help the children in any way we can.

Thanks again for all your help. We truly do appreciate it.

Blessings,

Chaplain Brandon S. Harding

The support we have received has been tremendous. We now have a more than enough books to get us through the deployment. For those of you that have sent books, thank you, thank you. We are continuing to collect VHS tapes. If we have duplicate copies we send those out to our outlying positions. For our coffee house, right now we have sufficient coffee, what we continue to run out of is creamer, especially the “fu-fu” kind, i.e. hazelnut, amaretto, French vanilla, etc. We also have plenty of Tea. What we may need more of is Hot Cocoa, once the weather gets cooler. Thanks again for all your support. I continue to be humbled by the generosity that is shown to us.

As the Christmas Season approaches we would love to get some decorations sent over to decorate our small chapel and coffee house.

Blessings,

Chaplain Brandon S. Harding

Our Library/Coffee/Movie house is coming along great. Thank you for all of the movies, books and coffee items. We will always need more coffee & supplies. We are almost at our saturation point with books. We can still use VHS tapes as we have other groups within our unit that have VHS players. We will send them the extras we get.

Most Marines are huge sports fans. With College Football and the NFL now in full swing, any kind of sports memorabilia that we could hang in our coffee house would be great. We are usually up very late in Saturday night and Sunday morning watching college games.

Blessings,

Chaplain Brandon S. Harding

Our Coffee House/Movie Lounge/Library is coming along very nicely. Thank you for all the items that have been sent. We could still use more VHS tapes, if you have old ones you are not watching.

Also, we have an MWR computer lounge right next door where Marines are able to email their families. We would like to add webcams to the computers. We need a total of 20. They don’t have to be the “top of the line” just the basic ones will do fine.

Finally, if you send something to us please include your email in your correspondence. That way we can quickly communicate to you that we have received what you sent and say thanks.

Here are a couple of photos of the Coffee House we have started. Since we are from Hawaii we decided to call it "Lava Java Café & Movie Lounge".

03 Sep 2008
We have a movie lounge set up and are requesting used VHS tapes. VHS tapes are easier to deal with because they don’t get “borrowed”.

Chaplain Brandon S. Harding

We need large self dispensing thermoses to assist in coffee distribution. Also, small furniture items that could be easily mailed like lamps that would add to the atmosphere of the coffee house. If anyone has some old drapes or curtains that are in good condition we could put those to good use as well.

Blessings,

Chaplain Brandon S. Harding

I'm the battalion chaplain for 1st Battalion 3D Marines. We are based out of Kaneohe Bay Hawaii. Many men from our unit were here last year in Haditha. Prior to that in Afghanistan and prior to that in the infamous "battle of Fallujah". Most Marines here have AC and electricity. Also they have access to refrigerators and microwaves.

Currently the main needs are reading materials. I'm in the process of setting up a library and we have zero books. Also, in conjunction with the library we are setting up a coffee house. So donations of coffee and anything coffee related, to include coffee makers is needed.

Your contributions are greatly appreciated.

IMPORTANT! DO NOT PRINT THIS PAGE!!!

Why? Because this list changes all the time due to unit movements, soldier transfers, or even soldier casualties.
It is also illegal. ALL content on this site is copyright Any Soldier Inc.
DO NOT send any letter or package to a soldier's address unless you check this web site the same day you mail your packages.
Please do not burden the soldiers or the APO/FPO by sending things when the soldiers are gone. If a soldier is not listed here anymore then that soldier's address is expired. Check here often!

Note that some of the units do not have ranks shown on their addresses.
This is done at the unit's request, but ALL of our contacts ARE Servicemembers.

Be sure to change the "ATTN" line to "ATTN: Any Female Sailor if your package is for a female!

DO NOT use this program if you expect or require a reply!
DO NOT expect, or require, a reply from a Sailor!
A supporter said it perfectly, "I mean, these guys and gals have other things on their minds, y’know? Like...oh, STAYING ALIVE?"

(NOTE *): Effective 1 May 2006 this web site added a major layer of security to our contacts' information. This change is necessary to protect our troops and ensure that Any Soldier will continue to operate.
The ONLY changes are that the addresses of our contacts are now hidden and the number of addresses you can get are limited. You may obtain addresses simply by clicking on the link provided and correctly filling out the form, the address will then be emailed to you immediately.

(NOTE **): The number shown is how many times a form was submitted requesting this address. This does NOT necessarily mean that this contact will be helped by that many folks. Rule of thumb is that anything 5 requests or less may in fact be no support at all. No way to tell exactly unless the contact lets you know in his/her update how much support they are getting.

(Note 1.): Note that postage to APO AE and FPO AE (E = Europe) is only to NY where the connection to the APO/FPO (APO = Army Post Office)(FPO = Fleet Post Office) is, or to San Francisco for APO AP and FPO AP (P = Pacific), so you don't pay postage all the way to Iraq/Afghanistan. You might consider picking contacts closer to your mailing area to help cut the cost of mailing. If you live on the East Coast, pick "AE", West Coast, pick "AP", Midwest, well...uh, Thank You for your Support! ;)

New with us (December 2005) you might notice "APO AA" and "FPO AA". This is for units in the Caribbean/South America. Normally. However, due to the nature of some units they may be in Iraq but have an address showing "FPO AA". Mail addresses to "AA" goes out of Miami, Florida.

(Note 2.): Why are military addresses weird? There isn't a street address or city. What gives? Correct, just about everything about the military is weird to civilians. Military units are very mobile, they move around a lot, often they even become part of another unit. The APO (Army Post Office) and FPO (Fleet Post Office) assign APO and FPO numbers as needed, they are NOT static. An APO/FPO number may be for a large unit, or a location. An APO/FPO number for Baghdad today may be for Frankfurt tomorrow.

(Note 3.): The "Expect to not mail past" date is only an approximate and is one of the least reliable things on this web site. It is because of this that you must check often before you send anything to this unit. There are a few reasons this date is not reliable, to include: it IS the Military, we ARE dealing with the APO/FPO/DPO. The only thing that does not change in the military is that things will change. PLEASE NOTE that a Contact is dropped off our active list 30 days PRIOR to their date leaving to help avoid mail bouncing.

(Note 4.): (Removed for OPSEC reasons)

(Note 5.): The lines, "Contact with approx number of Soldiers:" and "Approx how may Female Soldiers:" have NOTHING to do with unit strength. They are approximately how many other Troops the Contacts believe they can get packages to. This helps you understand that you should not send 100 packages to someone who only deals with 10 Troops.
Don't forget that if your package is for a female Soldier, be sure to change "ATTN: Any Soldier®" to "ATTN: Any Female Soldier".

( Note 6.): This is simply where the unit this contact is from. This is NOT a true picture of the folks in the unit as most all units are made up of folks from all over the United States.) A "Composite Unit" is one made up of other units and is usually temporary for a particular mission.

( Note 7.): Updated APO/FPO/DPO mailing restrictions> courtesy of Oconus.com (gone now) (Note: About Restriction "U2": "U2 - Limited to First Class Letters", Box "R" is for retired personnel that live overseas and are still authorized an APO/FPO box. Their address will be something like Box 3345R. Doubt you will see anything like that in Afghanistan or Iraq or ...)(Please Note: Sometime in August 2013, Oconus.com changed the code on their page and our form doesn't work with them anymore, so a link to their page is the best we can do, sorry.)
