22 Apr 2011:

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't updated for awhile, I moved from the Kabul News Bureau, to here in Bagram, which has been a BIG change. I went from an office of allll women, to an office of allll dudes! Talk about a culture shock! I have started referring to myself as Snow White, since I have seven "dwarves" that work for me. As you can see from the photo! I stay very busy, sending my broadcasters to run around the country filming events and activities. That pretty much restricts me to sitting behind my desk 12+ hours a day, except to eat and go to the gym. Woo hoo!

Requests from me and the Dwarves!

Sugar Free Red Bull
Wool socks (green, brown, khaki)
Special K Bars
Protein shake stuff
Healthy Snacks (granola bars, etc)
Flaming Hot Cheetos
Sports stuff (footballs, soccer balls, games, etc) Drink mixes (cherry is a favorite, so is pomegranate) Dried Fruit Batteries (AA, AAA) Oatmeal Cream Pies Hershey's Chocolate Bars w/Almonds Caramel Corn Anything having to do with fitness!

Thank you all so much for your support, Major shout outs to the Pohl family and to Girl Scout Troop 388 in New York! Y'all have been just so great and supportive, and make my days brighter and even more bearable!

Thanks!
Sailor Sarah

Can you dig it?!

This photo is from a tree planting ceremony, with General Patreus, Ambassador Eikenberry, the Mayor of Kabul, and several other higher ups.
U.S. Forces - Afghanistan and the U.S. Embassy donated hundreds of thousands of trees to Afghanistan, 75,000 in Kabul alone. It was a nice ceremony, replete with speeches, snow, and golden shovels.

The weather has been fluctuating a lot as of late, I'm looking forward to complaining about heat, and as I am a southern Californian, chills do not agree with me.

Recent requests!

It's funny, I've always been in an office/environment of all men, but this deployment have found my office of all women a nice change. It A.
smells better, B. has better conversations, and C. provides hobbies that hanging with dudes does not (knitting, quilting, crocheting).

So, as a group of females, we would like, (please)

Jog Bras (mediums)
Gray V-necks (really any color but white as the laundry doesn't separate things, big surprise) Exercise socks (size 7-10 shoe) Cotton undies (size medium again, nothing fancy as we are in a war
zone!)
Headbands (the thick fabric ones)
Clinical Strength deodorant
Lotions
Air fresheners (ideally the ones that are timed to spray every now and then, in a variety of scents!) Chicken noodle soup Indian and Thai food packets (we have a microwave and an electric kettle. I know, spoiled) Energy drinks

Aaaand that's about it!

Big thanks to everyone for all your support, Maryland, Connecticut, New York, California, Georgia, Alabama, Virginia, All Y'all!

I have been doing my best to send thank you notes and respond to letters, sorry if I missed you!

Thanks again, everyone, you have been a big help in getting through this deployment. We all really appreciate you.

This is me before I plunged into a burning building... with a video camera.

Pretty cool story, you can find it on dvidshub.net under my name!

Thank you everyone for your amazing care packages and letters, I have done my best to write thank you notes to everyone, but if I lost your contact info, I'm sorry! Things have been SUPER busy around here, one of my broadcasters went home last week (tour was over) so now we're double booked and running all over Kabul like chickens with our heads cut off.
In the best way possible. I've already been gone for 6 weeks, and it has fairly flown by. Only 4.5 months left. Yess....

Requests Du Jour!

almonds
dried fruit
exercise socks (low-cut, womens size 7-9, colorful is preferred!) orange tic tacs sugar free red bulls *my fave!
Razors
Feminine hygiene Products
Aveeno body wash, face wash, lotion, shampoo and conditioner Neutrogena
facial sunscreen 30 SPF Clinical strength deoderant (women) Deep conditioner (it's REALLY dry here) Healthy snacks Lite Microwave
popcorn/kettlecorn

And anything else you can't imagine spending 6 months without! Thank you again to everyone who has been so generous in their donations. We have given away quite a lot of goodies to the Locals and donated a bunch to our MWR for everyone else. It's just so nice to get a package from someone who cares.

Thanks, y'all!

Sarah and Co.

Hello all! This is my FOURTH time using this site, my second time in Afghanistan. I absolutely love getting letters and packages from people all over the country that love their sailors. I'm a television broadcaster that works for AFN in Kabul, Afghanistan. We have a small bureau here with Army, Navy and Air Force all in one room. We're from Washington, DC, California, Colorado, Nebraska, and Alabama, so we pretty much have the whole country covered! It's interesting to interact with other forces, and of course we all make fun of each other all day long. Go Navy, right? Our job is to produce television and radio packages to broadcast on AFN and the Pentagon Channel. You can also find our stuff on YouTube and dvidshub. It's an amazing job, with great opportunities to travel around the country and see some fascinating sights.

Ok, down to business! We do have a microwave (pirated from another office!), we do have a laundry service, have electricity (110), and live in tents AND relocatable buildings!

Some specific things we crave are
Quilting supplies (fabric, patterns, etc)
Amy's vegetarian soups
Dried hummus
Lo-carb Monsters
Hot tamales (the candy)
almonds
luna bars
dried fruit
exercise socks
febreze
orange tic tacs
sugar free red bulls
Chapstick
Razors
Feminine Hygiene Products
Aveeno body wash, face wash, lotion
travel size toiletries (we travel a lot)
Shampoos, conditioner, body wash (for the locals, doesn't have to be fancy!)
Maybelline Falsies Black Mascara (i know, makeup in a war zone, but it's important to feel like a girl sometimes)
Green socks (womens size 9)
Athletic Socks (womens size 9)
Clinical strength deoderant (men and women)

Aaaaand that's all i can think of for now, in terms of specifics. If there's anything you can think of that YOU couldn't live without for 6 months, please feel free! You never know what you miss until you miss it.

Thank you so much, I look forward to hearing from you!

IMPORTANT! DO NOT PRINT THIS PAGE!!!

Why? Because this list changes all the time due to unit movements, soldier transfers, or even soldier casualties.
It is also illegal. ALL content on this site is copyright Any Soldier Inc.
DO NOT send any letter or package to a soldier's address unless you check this web site the same day you mail your packages.
Please do not burden the soldiers or the APO/FPO by sending things when the soldiers are gone. If a soldier is not listed here anymore then that soldier's address is expired. Check here often!

Note that some of the units do not have ranks shown on their addresses.
This is done at the unit's request, but ALL of our contacts ARE Servicemembers.

Be sure to change the "ATTN" line to "ATTN: Any Female Sailor if your package is for a female!

DO NOT use this program if you expect or require a reply!
DO NOT expect, or require, a reply from a Sailor!
A supporter said it perfectly, "I mean, these guys and gals have other things on their minds, y’know? Like...oh, STAYING ALIVE?"

(NOTE *): Effective 1 May 2006 this web site added a major layer of security to our contacts' information. This change is necessary to protect our troops and ensure that Any Soldier will continue to operate.
The ONLY changes are that the addresses of our contacts are now hidden and the number of addresses you can get are limited. You may obtain addresses simply by clicking on the link provided and correctly filling out the form, the address will then be emailed to you immediately.

(NOTE **): The number shown is how many times a form was submitted requesting this address. This does NOT necessarily mean that this contact will be helped by that many folks. Rule of thumb is that anything 5 requests or less may in fact be no support at all. No way to tell exactly unless the contact lets you know in his/her update how much support they are getting.

(Note 1.): Note that postage to APO AE and FPO AE (E = Europe) is only to NY where the connection to the APO/FPO (APO = Army Post Office)(FPO = Fleet Post Office) is, or to San Francisco for APO AP and FPO AP (P = Pacific), so you don't pay postage all the way to Iraq/Afghanistan. You might consider picking contacts closer to your mailing area to help cut the cost of mailing. If you live on the East Coast, pick "AE", West Coast, pick "AP", Midwest, well...uh, Thank You for your Support! ;)

New with us (December 2005) you might notice "APO AA" and "FPO AA". This is for units in the Caribbean/South America. Normally. However, due to the nature of some units they may be in Iraq but have an address showing "FPO AA". Mail addresses to "AA" goes out of Miami, Florida.

(Note 2.): Why are military addresses weird? There isn't a street address or city. What gives? Correct, just about everything about the military is weird to civilians. Military units are very mobile, they move around a lot, often they even become part of another unit. The APO (Army Post Office) and FPO (Fleet Post Office) assign APO and FPO numbers as needed, they are NOT static. An APO/FPO number may be for a large unit, or a location. An APO/FPO number for Baghdad today may be for Frankfurt tomorrow.

(Note 3.): The "Expect to not mail past" date is only an approximate and is one of the least reliable things on this web site. It is because of this that you must check often before you send anything to this unit. There are a few reasons this date is not reliable, to include: it IS the Military, we ARE dealing with the APO/FPO/DPO. The only thing that does not change in the military is that things will change. PLEASE NOTE that a Contact is dropped off our active list 30 days PRIOR to their date leaving to help avoid mail bouncing.

(Note 4.): (Removed for OPSEC reasons)

(Note 5.): The lines, "Contact with approx number of Soldiers:" and "Approx how may Female Soldiers:" have NOTHING to do with unit strength. They are approximately how many other Troops the Contacts believe they can get packages to. This helps you understand that you should not send 100 packages to someone who only deals with 10 Troops.
Don't forget that if your package is for a female Soldier, be sure to change "ATTN: Any Soldier®" to "ATTN: Any Female Soldier".

( Note 6.): This is simply where the unit this contact is from. This is NOT a true picture of the folks in the unit as most all units are made up of folks from all over the United States.) A "Composite Unit" is one made up of other units and is usually temporary for a particular mission.

( Note 7.): Updated APO/FPO/DPO mailing restrictions> courtesy of Oconus.com (gone now) (Note: About Restriction "U2": "U2 - Limited to First Class Letters", Box "R" is for retired personnel that live overseas and are still authorized an APO/FPO box. Their address will be something like Box 3345R. Doubt you will see anything like that in Afghanistan or Iraq or ...)(Please Note: Sometime in August 2013, Oconus.com changed the code on their page and our form doesn't work with them anymore, so a link to their page is the best we can do, sorry.)
