I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity of supplying the American fighting men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan with care packages. I know what it is like to wait day after day for a package from home, and none comes. My tour of duty was during WWII, arriving in the Philippines only ten days before war broke out and then fighting on Bataan for four months. Then came the fall of Bataan and for three and a half years as a POW, all this time never receiving a care package or a Red Cross box.
After much anguish while struggling to understand the war in Iraq, I finally decided that being for or against the war, or for or against our President made no difference to the young men and women fighting for our freedom. There were 154,000 brave men and women over there who needed our support. With this in mind my wife and I decided that we had to put our money where our mouth was, talking about support didn't cut the mustard, we had to do something. That's where Anysoldier.com came in. Your WEB SITE provided us with the wherewithal to do something, and so we decided to use a part of my Veterans disability check and start sending care packages to our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
What we have given to our troops is nothing compared with what our giving has given us. We have many of our friends here in our retirement home helping us pack boxes, shop for items the soldiers want and taking these boxes to the post office. We have given a new meaning to "We Care."

Remember CW5 Layne Pace, the Apache helicopter expert and founder of "The Afghanistan Orphanage Project (TAO Project)"? Well, when he was in Afghanistan he had this amazing medic working in his unit, Jill Stevens. An Army Medic, marathon runner and VERY popular pageant participant.
Well, she has done even more...
"Hey there,
Much to my own surprise, I have written a book entitled "It's All Good" that shares my experiences as a military medic, marathon runner and pageant participant. It is filled with fun stories and includes lots of photos.
(Some flattering, some not so much!)
Some of the chapters in the book focus on my experience serving in Afghanistan and how I became a part of the Afghanistan Orphanage Project. I personally saw the struggles the children there face each day.
My publisher, Spring Creek Books, has offered to donate $1 directly to the orphanage for each copy of my book that is sold through their website. The book will come off the press in August, but you can pre-order it now.
I will be autographing each copy sent out through the website, so if you are interested in reading the book, as well as helping out a great cause, click on the following link below to order it.
If you aren't interested, I understand, but if you are aware of other people who might be, please let them know about it. Hopefully my little writing project will serve as a great blessing to the children in Afghanistan.
Lock 'n Load!
Jill"
3 July: From the IRS:
"Good Afternoon.
The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 barred stimulus payments to individuals whose tax returns did not include valid social security numbers for the individual filer, spouse, and any children. The Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Tax Act of 2008 (HEART) removes that bar for joint returns where at least one spouse was a member of the armed forces at any time during the year.
Affected married couples who have already filed a joint return do not need to take any further action. Those who have not yet filed should do so as soon as possible.
Married couples filing joint returns who are eligible for stimulus payments under the new law will receive a notice from the IRS telling them the amount of their payment and the date it will be issued.
Stimulus payments will be made in November for these qualifying military families. A specific time frame for the payments will be announced later this year.
See http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=184394,00.html for additional discussion and details. This information is publicly posted on IRS.gov, but was not issued as a news release. "

The Independent Charities Seal of Excellence is awarded to the members of Independent Charities of America and Local Independent Charities of America that have, upon rigorous independent review, been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an annual basis that they meet the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness. These standards include those required by the US Government for inclusion in the Combined Federal Campaign, probably the most exclusive fund drive in the world. Of the 1,000,000 charities operating in the United States today, it is estimated that fewer than 50,000, or 5 percent, meet or exceed these standards, and, of those, fewer than 2,000 have been awarded this Seal. Any Soldier Inc. is proud to be one of them!
